Editorial Policy
How we keep this honest
These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They exist so you can trust a recommendation here more than one on a site that won't tell you how it works.
Independence
No brand pays us for placement or for a better ranking. No manufacturer sends us products in exchange for coverage. Our only revenue is the Amazon Associates commission described on the affiliate disclosure page, and a commission rate has never changed where a product lands in a ranking. When a cheaper or subscription-free option is the better buy, we recommend it — even though it earns us less.
Written by a human
Our reviews and guides are written and edited by a real, named person — see about. We use research tools, but the judgments, the rankings and the words are ours, and a real person stands behind them.
No fabrication — ever
- No fake reviews or testimonials. We do not invent customer quotes, reviewer names or star ratings. If we don't have real reviews, we show none.
- No invented testing. We don't claim a lab or hands-on testing we didn't do. Products are labeled "researched" or "hands-on tested" truthfully.
- No fabricated specs, prices or ratings. Specs come from manufacturer docs; prices come live from Amazon; we mark unknowns as unknown.
No fear-based marketing
We will never use break-in statistics or scare tactics to push a sale. Home security is worth doing calmly and well; it is not worth frightening you into an impulse buy.
Sourcing
Factual claims — compatibility, specifications, subscription pricing — trace to a named public source: the manufacturer's spec sheet or support docs, the standards bodies (for Matter/Thread), or the live retailer listing. Where a measured number came from someone else's testing, we name and link them rather than launder their authority.
Corrections & updates
When we find or are told about an error, we correct it promptly and note material changes. Hardware, firmware and subscription prices change, so we re-verify money pages roughly monthly and update the visible "last updated" date only when we've genuinely re-checked — never to fake freshness. Spotted a mistake? Let us knowand we'll fix it.
